Lloyd Thompson

Lloyd is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1974, and an MBA from Northeastern University in 1982.

 

He joined GE Aircraft Engines in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1974, and held assignments in Product Design, Service Engineering and Program Management. In 1984, he transferred to Aircraft Engines International Operations as Manager of Engine Sales in Rome, Italy where he was responsible for Military and Commercial engine market development and sales activities in Italy, Yugoslavia and Malta.

 

He returned to Lynn in 1987 and led of the development and certification of a new commercial turbofan engine in a joint venture with AlliedSignal [now Honeywell], that powers the Falcon 2000 corporate jet produced by Dassault Aviation of France. Lloyd was promoted to General Manager, Small Commercial Engines Department in 1992 where over five years he led the introduction of turbofan powered aircraft (manufactured by Bombardier) into Regional Airline operations and launched the development of higher-powered engines for larger [70+ passenger] Regional Jets. By 2005 this business was generating over $2B annually in revenue.

 

In 1997 Lloyd was appointed General Manager of Gas Turbine Operations at GE Energy’s affiliate, Nuovo Pignone, in Florence, Italy where he led the introduction of three new Gas Turbine models for Distributed Power Generation as well as mechanical drive applications for the Oil & Gas industry.

 

In 1999, Lloyd returned to Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio as President of the Engine Alliance – a joint venture with UTC’s Pratt & Whitney division – to develop the propulsion system for the Airbus’ A380 – the world’s largest civil aircraft.

 

In 2006, Lloyd continued his relationships with Airbus, relocating to their headquarters in the city of Toulouse France, where he was GE’s Senior Executive for Airbus Programs for 7 years.

 

Lloyd has served on the Boards of Inroads [Cincinnati] as well as the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals.

 

Lloyd retired in 2015. He and his wife Diane have three children and reside in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Lloyd’s interests include music, art, golf and photography.
